FishOMania wound its way down south for the fifteenth round at the prestigious Makins Fishery. With some recent big weights in opens and overcast ‘fishy’ weather there were some decent weights expected from the right pegs, which were thought to be on lake 3 or 4.
Indeed, it was Lake 3 that threw up the winner in Lee Farmer who put a cracking weight of 166lb 0oz from peg 3. Lee fished a steady match starting on pellets short and following the fish out shallow as they moved away. In the last hour Lee has gone down his edges and caught some bigger carp on bunches of maggots over groundbait. Lee commented “I’m absolutely over the moon” on getting to his first FishO final.
Second on the day was the unfortunate Daniel Squire who also drew on Lake 3 peg 9. Dan has fished a simple match of hard pellets in his margins, fishing a banded 6mm on the hook for some proper carp in his 154lb 0oz.
Rounding out the top three was Gavin Butler with 148lb 6oz from Lizard peg 29. Gavin has had a slow start, but the carp have turned up late down his margins and he’s fooled them with a big worm hookbait.
Our thanks to Wendell and his team at Makins for holding the match and to David Kent for organising.
Our next qualifier is at Lindholme Lakes on Saturday 25th July and anglers are reminded to check the new procedures and pay for their pools on the Online Booking Site.
