Lough Cullin is a large water linked to Lough Conn by a small stretch of river that includes the famous Pontoon Bridge salmon pool. With water rich in insect life, the angler should fish fly patterns that suggest mayflies, lake olives, duckflies (buzzers) and daddy-longlegs at the relevant points of the season.
Salmon can also be caught on Cullin and Conn, for information contact the Ballina Angling Centre or Healy’s Hotel.
Ballina Guide Service: Paddy McDonnell is one of a team of guides based at the Ballina Angling Centre, overlooking the famous Ridge Pool on the River Moy. The team has a very professional attitude and any angler can be confident that they are fishing with some of the best guides in the region.
The BAC can arrange a large array of fly fishing trips, including salmon fishing on the finest beats of the Moy, sea trout fishing on the Moy estuary and brown trout and grilse fishing on the prolific spate rivers.
The lough angler is obviously extremely well catered for on Corrib, Mask, Conn, Cullin and many others, while fly fishing for pike can also be arranged.
Fishing with a guide comes highly recommended, especially for the visiting angler. It helps cut down a lot of the guesswork when it comes to finding the fish and selecting flies and tackle.

Healy’s Hotel: Healy’s comes highly recommended for the angler visiting Co Mayo, being a short drive from the best salmon and trout fishing in the area. Situated on the shore of Lough Cullin, it was a 19th century shooting lodge and horse-changing depot that was recently converted into a hotel.
Run by fanatical fisherman John Dever, the hotel really is an angler’s paradise. Boats for Cullin can be hired and many hints and tips can be picked up from the evening conversations in the bar!
