On the Grand Union canal last week the most productive area was
fish, mainly perch using maggots and a whip. In the early part of last
week a couple of anglers had 6 bream each on section 3 just north of
‘Three Locks’. The bream were showing along a number of sections last
week but with the heavy frosts over the weekend, smaller fish are being reported.
The weather is starting to affect the fishing at Wyboston. On North
House Lake Jem Gribble caught a 17lb mirror carp and Steve Slater
caught a 16lb 8oz common. On the South Lagoon the predator hunters are
out. John Portman caught a 13lb 4oz zander; Bill Holtum had one at 8lb
8ozs. Eddie Kemp caught 2 pike to 9lbs, Ewan Thompson had 2 pike to
8lbs and our bailiff Danny Kelly had 5 pike to 15lbs (3 doubles). The
adjoining River Ouse is very clear and finding fish is becoming difficult.
Please be aware when fishing on any of
cold weather. A number of our river stretches and lakes are very deep
only a few feet out. Please ensure that you wear sensible footwear and
if fishing from a wooden platform take extra care as these can become
very slippery after a hard frost.
The Officers & Board Members Match took place on the Grand Union
Canal, section 7, The Globe, Linslade on Saturday. Results: –

2) Malcolm Harley 5lb 5ozs mixed bag

The fishing was difficult due to the canal being iced over on arrival.
The swims were eventually cleared by the anglers and boating traffic.
