Top South East team Maver Image has won the Match Fishing Team Championship on Evesham’s River Avon. Their victory came after a very close finish, which saw them top the tally with a final score of 55 points.
Runners up, Kamasan Starlets finished just a single point behind the leaders, with Drennan Barnsley coming in third with 51 points.
The winning team, was made up of Simon Colclough, Danny Grimsey, Pete Vasey, James Durakalic and Garry Miller.
Danny Grimsey said: “We are absolutely made up to have won what we consider to be one of the most important matches on the team fishing calendar. To beat the ‘big three’ of Drennan Barnsley, Kamasan Starlets, and Daiwa Dorking is no mean feat – but thanks to a good draw and a consistent team performance we have managed to pull it off. We are over the moon.
Our tactics, revolved around fishing bloodworm and joker on the long pole over a bed of groundbait and soil. The key for us was to feed a mix with a very low fed content, and only a small quantity of joker, topping up with small balls rich in joker when bites subsided.
We also had one of our anglers, James Durakalic, on peg 35, which is a noted chub peg. His match took a different path to everyone elses, but he managed to sneak out three good chub on the wagger, plus several small fish to finish with 10-10-0 for a section win, and third in the match.”
The individual winner was Matrix Dynamite Trentmen ace, Adrian Higginbottom. Drawn on peg 8, Adrian caught quality roach on bloodworm and joker tactics to finish comfortably clear of runner up Sean Ashby, who caught on similar tactics from peg 15.
