In blazing conditions the resurrected Middle Nene Championships was never going to be a match of big weights but it was very well supported by teams of three from the area and turned out to be a fair match with everyone catching.
This year’s trophy and taking top spot goes to Peterborough Select, with an outstanding performance of just five points.
In second position were Peterborough Others with 9 points and in third were the Wellingborough AC trio with 13 points.
Individual winner on the day with 12lb 4oz from Peg 1 at Pilton went to Neil Beeby from Nene Anglers.
Second was Jonathon Means from Peterborough Select, peg 16 at Wadenhoe with 7lb 7oz.
Individual 3rd was Anthony Johnson fishing for Deeping St James with a respectable 6lb 15oz from peg 6 at Wadenhoe.
All 48 anglers caught.
The energy behind the rekindling of the competition was Steve Ashley of Nene Anglers who said: “It took five months to organise but its been well worth every minute, and I look forward to next year with more clubs and teams. Just a quick thank you for everyone who supported, staff at the Kings Head at Wadenhoe, to David Philips our photographer and to the marshals who sat out all day in heat with the anglers,. Top job everyone.”
