PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERY
REPORT
MOLANDS The hardest frosts of the winter so far have really affected sport on Molands with catches to around 30lb best this week. Long pole with maggot or pinkies has been the best approach with F1’s to 4lb and skimmers providing the most bites at the moment. Top pegs are 8, 15, 23, 29, 31, 43 – 48 and 56 – 60.
GEARYS A few carp are coming to the bomb and bread fished out to the middle stumps or a pellet feeder fished with punched bread or polony on the hook. Mixed nets of skimmers, crucians, brown goldfish and roach are coming to the caster or maggot fished over ground bait with the high bank pegs 6 – 13 the most consistent area.
LITTLE GEARYS The best pool this week with pegs 5 – 13 and 25 – 29 in decent form giving catches up to 60lb. Carp to double figures and F1’s have been the main target and pole fished pellet at 13 metres has been the best approach with a small pellet feeder to the island also worth a try.
GRATUITIES Fished well early in the week but catches plummeted as the frosts set in towards the weekend. There are plenty of roach, perch, skimmers and crucians to be caught on a long pole with caster or maggot. Punched bread or waggler have accounted for a few carp up to 8lb. Best pegs are 1, 4, 8, 9 and 15.
WILLOW Successful tactics have been a small feeder fished up to the island and the waggler fished with punched bread which have caught F1’s and carp up to 4lb. Best pegs 1, 5, 6 and 10.
REEDY BAY/FIRST BAY/CRESCENT/ALDER These small pools offer the best chance of consistent action during the colder weather with plenty of F1’s, carp, crucians and brown goldfish to be caught. Maggot, caster or expander pellet float fished on the pole is the top tactic on all of these pools at the moment.
