REPORT
MOLANDS
From fishing really well in the week with near record catches, the fishing dropped off dramatically at the weekend with the much colder conditions. Wayne ‘Ted’ Carter had 177lb in Wednesday’s Open which was 13oz short of the fishery record. Ted caught on a tiny homemade candle using a 6mm pellet on band and he was on peg 60. Generally when the fishing is good, anything fished shallow is catching with long pole, pellet waggler or candle all producing good nets. During the weekend things became very patchy and pellet feeder with bread punch fished tight to the island was the best tactic. Top pegs 2, 8, 10, 21 – 25, 29, 43 – 46 and 58 – 60.
GEARYS
It has been the best week of the year so far on Gearys with a couple of tons in matches and very good back up weights. The carp are moving all around the pool and usually are following the wind. Straight lead and pellet, method feeder with boilies or corn down the margins have all produced good nets with carp to 18lb featuring in matches. The skimmers have also been feeding well and fish to over 3lb have been caught in catches to over 40lb on pellet or chopped worm and caster. Top pegs are 9 – 13, 19, 21, 23, 27 – 29 and 31 – 33.
LITTLE GEARYS
Catches have been a little lower this week but fish are being caught all around the pool. Match nets to 90lb have been caught in the week with very good back up weights. A small pellet feeder fished tight up to the island with pellet, meat on the hook or short pole with pellet/paste fished down the margins are the successful tactics. F1’s are the main target but plenty of carp, tench and skimmers are also showing. Top pegs 5 – 9, 15 – 21 and 26 – 29.
GRATUITIES
Fished with small expanders or casters over micros and it is ‘a bite a chuck’ with crucians, skimmers, roach with the odd bonus carp, tench or barbel. The bigger carp were coming to pellet waggler or dog biscuit fished on or near the surface with fish into double figures coming to this. Top pegs 1, 4, 8 – 11 and 15.
ANNIVERSARIES
Lots of fish coming out with mixed nets of crucians, F1’s, tench and skimmers coming to the pellet, caster or maggot fished on the pole tight up to a feature such as an overhanging bush or island. A few carp showing with the early pegs1 – 6 giving the best chance of carp into double figures.
SIBLINGS
The best chance of double figure carp is on Siblings, with the bigger fish showing at the shallow end and nearest to the lodge. Boilies, meat or dog biscuit have accounted for plenty of fish in the 10 – 16lb bracket this week. Good sport to be had fishing corn or meat close in for tench, skimmers and some decent sized crucians.
WILLOW
The best time to fish Willow is in the evenings and with corn or meat down the margins, this tactic has seen some big catches of carp and tench coming out. During the day, long pole with pellet or a small method/pellet feeder tight to the island is working best.
