FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 5/6/11
Last week there were 156 rods caught 354 fish for an average of 2.27.
It was a better week with catches up on all the pools and lots of fish taking off the top giving interesting fishing.
The best fish of the week was an 8lb rainbow caught by Dr Vince of Coventry who took it on a small white dry fly whilst fishing from a boat on Park Meadow. Ray Inman of Birmingham caught seven fish from a boat on Cocks Close including one at 5lb which all came to dry Mayfly. Kevin Brookes of Tamworth took five fish and released a further three fish including a couple of fish at 4lb, again from a boat on Cocks Close and these came to a Soldier Palmer fished right up on the surface and zipped back through the ripple. Paul Downes of Nuneaton caught five from Park Meadow on gold head Damsels fished on a floating line.
The Packington Fly Fishers had their second leg of the annual match against Kirby Fly Fishers on the Great Pool with Kirby winning the day with 38 fish for 94lb to the Packington 25 fish for 63lb. The best fish caught in the match was a 7lb 4oz rainbow caught by Mr R Dredge of Kirby and he took it on a Buzzer.
Top patterns are Damsel Nymph, black or olive Buzzer, Bloodworm, CDC Emergers, GRHE, Diawl Bach, Shipmans Buzzer and pearly Pheasant Tail Nymph.
The best areas have been the high bank and around the middle willows on Cocks Close. On Great Pool, the dam wall area has been in good form with the deeper water near the dam also going well on Hall Pool.
