FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 1/6/14
Last week 91 rods caught 254 fish for an average of 2.79.
The fishing was a little mixed last week with the changeable weather conditions making it fish well one day and difficult the next. On the Day Ticket water Cocks Close, there have been a lot of fish moving all around the pool and also a large shoal of fish at the lodge end of the lake. If you can get onto this shoal the fishing is quite simple with Damsel, Montana and GRHE all catching plenty of fish. The fish that are moving around the pool are fishable with small CDC Emergers, Hoppers and pearly Wickhams working on a floating line.
The biggest fish of the week was a 6lb 4oz rainbow caught from the bank at Cocks Close by Mick Hill of Birmingham on a CDC Emerger. Mr Cade and Mr Freeman shared a boat on Cocks Close and had eight between them and their biggest was 5lb 8oz. Paul Fleeman of Redditch who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close caught a 5lb rainbow and tempted it with a Daddy Long Legs fished on the top. Ray Inman of Birmingham fished various dries on the top from a boat on Cocks Close to catch seven fish to 4lb.
On the members’ pools, Nick Howarth had fish to 4lb in a six fish catch from a boat on the Great Pool using a mixture of small Nymphs fishing a floating line. On the Hall Pool, Graham Edwards of Coventry caught five on a black Tadpole with the biggest just under 4lb. Birmingham angler Steve Haden fished from a boat on the Park Meadow pool and caught five to 3lb on a Midas Dry Fly.
The Fishery is now holding a ‘Fishing for Heroes’ event on Saturday 4th October, (suspended from 7th June). We are looking for anglers interested in fishing the event and all is required is to get a minimum of £50 sponsorship. The Fishery will donate the fishing free. Anybody interested should contact the lodge for further details and a sponsorship form.
