FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 25/5/14
Last week 109 rods caught 227 fish for an average of 2.10
It has been a little more difficult this week with a combination of very changeable weather and huge caenis hatches affecting the sport. Lots of fish are moving on the top but not giving themselves up. The boat anglers on Cocks Close have found it a little easier with the fish pushing out from the bank.
Top patterns have been Damsel Nymph, pearly Olives, CDC Emergers, black or olive Buzzer, GRHE, Diawl Bach and small Cats Whiskers.
The biggest fish of the week was a 9lb 10oz rainbow caught by Mr R Thompson of Oldbury who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Mr Wood from Nottingham caught a 7lb 3oz rainbow in an eight fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close and these came to Daddies fished dry and sunken. Brian Healy of Birmingham fished from the bank of Cocks Close and caught five fish to 5lb using a small Cats Whisker on a slow sinking line.
Tim Howarth fished from a boat on the Hall Pool and caught a five fish limit with fish to 7lb using small Nymphs on an intermediate line. On Park Meadow, Gavin Denton of Kenilworth caught six fish using a small Hopper on a floating line whilst fishing from a boat.
The best areas have been the sandbank, high bank and around the middle willows on Cocks Close. On the members’ pools, Great Pool is better towards the dam wall and Hall Pool is best around the cattle drink or dam wall area.
The Fishery is holding a ‘Fishing for Heroes’ event on Saturday 7th June. We are looking for anglers interested in fishing the event and all is required is to get a minimum of £50 sponsorship. The Fishery will donate the fishing free. Anybody interested should contact the lodge for further details and a sponsorship form.
