Last week 29 rods caught 175 fish for an average of 6.03 fish per rod
The wet and windy weather through most of the week put paid to a big turnout of rods but those that came enjoyed really good sport.
The best fish of the week was an 11lb rainbow caught by Mr J McQeen of Coventry who fished a Lure to tempt it along with five other fish that were safely returned. Jonathan Preston of Solihull caught an 8lb rainbow from the bank of Cocks Close and this came to a Damsel Nymph fished on a floating line. Steve Gowan of Knowle caught six fish to 6lb 12oz on a small Bloodworm pattern fished on a floating line and an indicator whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Fishery stalwart Rod Lacey of Nuneaton caught 15 fish to 5lb while fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and these all fell to his trusty Diawl Bach fished on a floating line.
Top flies have been Cats Whisker, black Fritz, black Tadpole, Diawl Bach, Gold Head Damsel, Bloodworm and GRHE.
The wind made it awkward at times but the old boat jetty corner and the road bank of Cocks Close have been the best areas.
The fishery will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary of trout fishing on Cocks Close this March and will be holding a special day on Saturday 18th March with ticket prices reduced on the day. If you want to be included contact Penny at the lodge via email at penny@packingtonestate.co.uk and she will send you all the details.
