The cold weather isn’t putting the trout off the feed at Packington Somers, and those who braved the elements at the Meriden fishery over the last week have enjoyed an excellent rod average of 4.56 fish per angler.
Both boat and bank anglers are doing very well on Cocks Close with the high bank area and around the middle willows the hotspots. The best fish of the week was a rainbow of 10lb 2oz caught by Adrian Cooper of Maxstoke, who was bank fishing on Cocks Close and took it along with five other fish on his own tied Damsel pattern.
John Taylor of Birmingham caught six fish on Monday when the temperatures were so low the rod rings were continuously freezing up, but he persevered and took fish to 3½lb, again on a Damsel Nymph.
Baden Hollingworth of Sutton Coldfield fished from a boat on the members’ water, Hall Pool and caught five fish to 4lb on a Damsel Nymph and black Buzzer fished on a floating line. Best patterns are Damsel Nymph, black Buzzer, Bloodworm, black or white Lures and Fritz Lures. The fishery opens at 8am and closes at dusk.
