The misty damp conditions at the draw for this latest round in the Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifiers held at Monk Lakes on 11th May 2016 soon gave way to a warm sunny day, and the fish in most of the lakes responded accordingly.
It was very disappointing to have 28 anglers not turning up especially as half of them did not notify the organisers beforehand.
Regular finalist Perry Stone from Chertsey, Surrey ran out a comfortable winner with 213 lbs 8 ozs from 67 on Lake 2 where he fished meat on the long pole to net a succession of barbel and carp, his biggest carp approximately 8 lbs. Perry has now qualified from Monk Lakes 3 times in the last 4 years.
Runner-up Peter Uppertons 173 lbs 6 oz net would have been a winner in most matches, but Peter had to settle for second place. Peter from Ashtead, Surrey had carp to 12 lbs from Peg 129 on lake 3 where he fished meat in the margins. Third place went to Matthew Threlfall who made the long journey from Wigan, he landed 158 lbs 14 oz from Peg 78 on Lake 2.
