Birmingham could host a brand new fishing show off the back of the popular National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Show in February 2011.
The National Exhibition Centre would be the venue for a showcase for new tackle with no retailing other than limited special offers from the manufacturers.
It’s what many in the angling trade have called for, but evidence has suggested that what the buying public actually wants is the chance to snap up tackle at shows at bargain prices.
However, I understand that many of the top names in the tackle trade met organisers Ocean Media last month – Maver, Shimano, Preston, Hardy Korda, Daiwa and Pure Fishing included.
And even though similar attempts at a showcase only event have failed in the past (I was involved in one myself under the Total Coarse Fishing banner), these companies appear keen to get behind it.
Phil Briscoe of Maver UK told trade magazine ‘Tackle And Guns’: “I am quite excited about getting something like this together once more.”
