A lady angler has boated the biggest brown trout ever caught on Ireland’s Lough Corrib at 21lb 8oz.
Marian McDonnell from Roundstone, Co. Galway was fishing only a short distance from Burrisheen Bay, along with her friend Bartley Molloy when the fish took a trolled bait.
The fish beats the current and long standing Corrib trout record by 2oz. That fish was taken by the late Michael Kavanagh from Annaghdow on June 27th, 1959.
Full particulars of Marian McDonnell’s trout are being sent for ratification to the Irish Specimen Fish Committe, through the Western Regional Fisheries Board.
