Twenty six anglers with disabilities competed for the title of National Individual Champion at the Angling Trust National Championship for Anglers with Disabilities at Lakeview Fishery, Melton Mowbray on Saturday 13th June 2015.

Weights were not expected to be high following practice during the week and returns from the open matches, and far from ideal weather conditions greeted the competitors on the day.  The lakes in use for this match were Lagoon and Serpent with Serpent being the one more favoured by the anglers.

Unfortunately, both of these lakes fished extremely hard but the form book was turned upside down with the winner coming from Lagoon.  Drawn on Lagoon peg 22 and fishing mostly down the track using maggot and pellet, Richard Rawsthorne from Manchester turned out the winner with a weight of 14.040 kg.

In second place and drawn on Serpent peg 18 with a weight of 8.900 kg was Fred Bispham from Kirkby in Ashfield.  In third place was Mark Russell from Leicester, drawn on Lagoon peg 8 with a weight of 6.680 kg.

Top 6 results;• 1st Richard Rawsthorne – Lagoon 22 – 14.040 kg• 2nd Frederick Bispham – Serpent  18 – 8.900 kg• 3rd Mark Russell – Lagoon 8 – 6.680 kg• 4th Paul Leslie Chadwick – Lagoon 24 – 5.860 kg• 5th John Holmes – Serpent 12 – 4.960 kg• 6th David Mohrhardt – Lagoon 14 – 4.940 kg

The Angling Trust would like to thank Lakeview Fishery for all their help and support in making this championship such a successful and enjoyable event.-
