Open: March 3rd to Sept 31st.
Tel: 01874 612612 or 01874 612800.
Cost: £15 per day or £35 per season. Discounts for children, OAP’s and residents of Brecon.
Species present: Brown trout, some rainbow trout, sea trout and salmon. Twaite shad also run in season.
Average size of fish: Trout are around 12oz but larger fish are present. There is a bag limit of six fish per day, but we are sure that, like Tim, you would like to see all the fish returned.
Catch and release: Yes, actively encouraged
Wading allowed: Yes, not before March 20th
Most consistent flies for trout: Olive adult and nymph imitation. Try to match the hatch at the time. Avoid wet flies fished downstream as this is limited to early-season success.
Most consistent flies for salmon: All black, Munro Killer, Usk Grub and the Latex Prawn.
Tuition available: No
Fish-smoking service: No
Shop: Fishtec is nearby and can supply whatever you need
Toilets: Yes, 50 metres upstream of the bridge
Top flies: Due to the prolific fly life it is recommended to fish small buzzers and dries rather than lures for the better/larger fish.
Recommended rod: 8ft 6in to 9ft 3in to 5-wt
Recommended lines: Floating line
Recommended tippet: Tapered leaders with a fluorocarbon tippet for dry flies. 100 per cent fluorocarbon for nymphs, tapering is not essential.
Useful extras: Bite indicators and heavy nymphs. The pool under the bridge is very deep! Take some cash as there is a great fish and chip shop next to the bridge.
