Recommended rod: 8-9ft 5-wt or 6-wt.
Species present: Trout, grayling, sea trout, salmon, coarse fish.
Average size: Trout/grayling 8oz to 12oz, larger wild fish in the 1lb to 2lb bracket are present. Sea trout and salmon run well into double figures.
Recommended patterns: Dries to match the hatch, mainly small upwings and caddis. Czech nymphs and gold heads are the best bet for the grayling.
Extras: Take your sea trout tackle as the Wear has one of the best runs in the country. Carry some sunk lures (Falkus) and a few surface lures. The sea trout can go very large so don’t forget some 10-12lb fluorocarbon.
