The River Wye around Hereford fished brilliantly for the 136-peg River Wye Championships 2016 with winner Pete Goulding weighing in over 125lb.
The waterway confirmed its place among the best natural match venues in the country when competitors shared more than 2,100lb.
Pegged 84 in Eign A section, he used waggler and maggot tactics to take an all-chub catch that saw him home comfortably ahead of Lee Pritchard, who came in second with 90lb 12oz.
But it was the backing weights that made the event so impressive. More than 77lb was required to get in the top six and the average weight among the 136 that took part was a very impressive 15lb.
Another of the match’s highlights was a brute of a carp caught by Deron Harper (pictured) that went over 20lb and on its own won Deron’s section.
