Robson Green returns to network TV this month with a new series of extreme fishing on Channel Five.Actor Green has spent the last four years travelling the globe, and has done it all from catching half-ton sharks in Ascension Island, to the fastest fish on Earth in Costa Rica.
Now, in Robson’s Extreme Fishing Challenge, he’s out to take on the best anglers out there – and win! Each week, he’ll be in a different place with the same extreme challenge – a competitive fishing tour against some of the best anglers on the planet. In eight brand new episodes, he faces the anglers of the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Peru. Robson’s challenge starts in Florianopolis, 700 miles south of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil where his opponent is professional fishing guide Giba Garbado. The rough waters around the rocks off the coast are the venue for the first challenge, which is simply who can catch the most. Further south in Laguna, Robson meets Seve Delgado, a net-fishing specialist and his next opponent. Seve and his colleagues cast weighted, circular nets into the shallow waters of the lagunas that have formed behind a 20km-long promontory in order to catch mullet. “His next performance is in the Rio São Benedito, a tributary of the Amazon in the heart of the country. Leandro is renowned as the best freshwater angler in the region and he is Robson’s opponent. In the first of two challenges against Leandro, the winner will be the first angler to land a catfish. Round four is a game to see who can get the most bites from the one of the continent’s most-feared predators – the vampire fish. At half time the Brazilians are on top, but Robbo then hits a screamer into the back of the net to make it two all going into the final round. The decider is against line fisherman Peixico on Ipanema beach in Rio. It is just a matter of numbers – the angler who catches the most fish wins. Will Brazil get to keep the cup (as usual), or can Robson pull off a spectacular victory for the away fans? Please don’t let it go to penalties.
The series starts at 9pm on Channel 5 on April 9th with one new episode a week for eight weeks…
