ANGLERS are being offered the chance to help in the restocking of salmon into the River Trent and its catchments, and being urged to report sightings and accidental captures of the King of the River in the coming months, reveals this month’s issue of Midland Angler.

The call to action comes from Notts-based Trent Rivers Trust (TRT), which says that sightings by passers by and accidental captures by coarse anglers are more likely than they have been for 100 years.

The reason is the success of stocking programme, which has been going on quietly for seven years.

TRT recently released 160,000 young salmon into the River Dove, a major Trent tributary, in an operation partly-funded by Severn Trent plc, which has donated over £33,000 to the programme since 1998. Some 750,000 have been stocked over seven years.

The first fish to return was recorded in 2001 and every year the number of sightings have increased, TRT secretary David Hunter, told angling magazine Midland Angler.

The real breakthrough came last year when the EA electro-fished part of the Dove and found small salmon. Scale readings proved they were not fish we had stocked, but the offspring of fish that had spawned naturally in the river the first descendants of the fish we have stocked
More salmon are now coming into the Trent than for 100 years. They are averaging 7lb but have been seen up to 20lb, he added.

For the full story don’t miss December’s issue of Midland Angler, out now…

Long time season permit holder John Gant has broken the fishery carp record at Sussex’s Ardleigh Reservoir with a fantastic mirror of 43lb 4oz, Total-Fishing.com can reveal.

In the same session John, a train driver from Stanway, landed a 38lb 8oz carp and a 29lb 10oz fish in what must be the best ever carp catch from Ardleigh.

This news confirms that these specimen fish continue to thrive and put on weight! said a spokesman.

Although the weather conditions have been poor this week, with strong winds restricting the boats, some anglers have still done well.

Nigel Berryman had three double figure pike while Alan Oldland and friend had eight pike between them from the boats. For anglers after good mixed float fishing the Ramada Lake is fishing well with Ian Wells reporting a near 20lb bag of roach, rudd, perch and skimmers.

By allowing them the use of your trademarked and copyrighted animated characters or facsimiles you are furthering their despicable attempts to influence the dietary choices of children far too young to make intelligent choices for themselves. This underhanded ad campaign is nothing less than an end run around parental choice and shamelessly seeks to brainwash young impressionable minds at the expense of the nuclear family. <BR><BR>We find this alliance between this fringe group and a company like Disney that purports to encourage family values to be highly offensive and indefensible. Your continued connection and indirect support of PETA despite its documented connection with and financial support of groups the Federal Bureau of Investigation has named terrorist organizations will force us to conclude that your interest in families in general and children in particular are a sham. We encourage all fair minded Sportsmen and women to boycott all services, products, theme parks, and affiliates ( http://www.cjr.org/tools/owners/disney.asp ) connected with the Walt Disney Company until such time as your corporation severs its ties with this group and rescinds its permission to use its trademarked and copyrighted products or facsimiles. <BR><P>Sincerely, <P><A href=http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?msp1234>The Undersigned</A> <P></P></BLOCKQUOTE><P><CENTER><!-- form button to go to petition-sign.html --><FORM action=http://www.PetitionOnline.com/msp1234/petition-sign.html method=get><INPUT type=submit value=Click Here to Sign Petition> </FORM></CENTER><P> </P></p>
