Just half an ounce separated the top two weights in what turned out to be a challenging match for many anglers in bright, hot conditions.
Paul Jackson had the top weight on the day, with a 6-5-0 net from peg two. Paul caught small chub early on the waggler, before going on his long pole line and catching eels and perch on a flat float fished with chopped worms and casters.
Runner up Steve Royle caught quality roach on hempseed, along with a bonus 1lb perch on the feeder. Steve opted to fish his hemp line down his peg at 11 metres, and took most of his fish in the last two hours of the match.
A 4lb tench coupled with a brace of eels on the long pole helped Paul Norledg take third place from peg 14. Paul fed chopped worms and casters through a bait dropper, and caught his tench on half a dendrabhena worm.
Eels also formed the bulk of the fourth and fifth placed catches. Former champion Rob South filled fourth spot and again qualified for the final from peg 69, with a net which included a 2lb eel taken just seconds before the end of the match! Tom Scholey filled the last frame place with a 4-4-0 net of eels from peg 61.
