Maver’s Simon Skelton has qualified for this year’s Mega Match This final after topping qualifier event number ten at The Glebe with a near 300lb bag.
Simon, who is no stranger to the Mega Match This event, will now compete in his FOURTH Match This final since the competition began back in 2011 – an impressive achievement that can only be bettered by one man, Andy Power.
Simon has been in fine form of late recording a number of lake and section wins on previous qualifiers to date, so it was only a matter of time before he got the draw he needed and the opportunity to secure his place in UK match angling’s biggest and most prestigious final.
Simon said: “I drew peg 23 on Lake 1, which I was more than happy with as I normally draw badly at The Glebe in big matches. I’ve won by mainly mugging fish. I’ve been winning my lake on a few qualifiers now, but didn’t feel as though I’d had the draw I needed until today. I was confident that if I drew an area with some fish in front of me, I’d be able to do enough and get back into the final again. It’s an awesome event and one I cannot wait to be part of again.”
Simon boasts an enviable track record in Mega Match This finals having finished on the podium on two separate occasions as well as picking up a cool £1,000 for winning his section from a third appearance.
Simon now joins fellow Maver rod, Alex Hulme (Maver Gold), who will be making his Match This debut having qualified from Partridge Lakes back on 20th May.
He will one to watch in this year’s Grand Final, which takes place on Saturday 2nd September at Maver Hayfield Lakes.
