Neil Freeman is pleased to announce that Britain’s largest vintage fishing tackle fair, the ‘National’ will once again take place in British fishing tackle’s spiritual home of Redditch on Sunday November 16th 2008. The venue remains the same as previous fairs, the indoor Abbey Sports Stadium on Birmingham Road (A441), Redditch, Worcestershire B97 6EJ.
Doors will open at 9am and remain open until 3pm. Admission for the public is reduced at £2. The venue will be signposted locally on
the day, there is free parking in stadium car park, wheelchair accesss and refreshments.
There will be up to 40 stands, almost twice the number of any other vintage fishing tackle fair in Britain, with both specialist dealers and private collectors buying and selling a range of tackle from rods to reels, creels to cased fish, nets to bags, lures, flies, boxes, books, ephemera and paintings.
Redditch residents are encouraged to visit the fair and bring with them any items of angling interest that relate to Redditch which at one time was the capital of manufacturing in the angling industry with reel makers, hook makers, rod makers and of course the household name of Allcocks, once the largest fishing tackle company in the world.
In addition local anglers will be able to get their reels repaired, restored or serviced by local reel expert and former employee of Youngs, Garry Mills. Garry now runs the The Mill Tackle Company where he makes his own bespoke centrepins and also specialises in repair and service of Allcocks and Youngs reels. He can be contacted locally on 01527 450335. Visitors will also have the opportunity to get their own tackle valued by leading auctioneer Neil Freeman of Angling Auctions and Angling Times vintage tackle expert Chris Sandford.
Should anyone wish to take a stall to sell their own vintage tackle some stalls are still available on a first come first served basis. For further information contact John Andrews on 07980 274 383 or e mail him at johneandrews@btinternet.com.
