Anglers are in for some sensational sport at Larford Lakes this spring and summer if matches there at the weekend are anything to go by.
In Saturday’s Maver Classic qualifier on the Match Lake, the top five all had over 100lb of F1s and carp, winner Chris Bradney taking 177-9-0 to the scales – pole and pellet down the edge doing the damage on peg 14 – with second placed Les Thompson weighing in 131-13-0 and Phil Weaver having 129-6-0 for third.
It got even better on Sunday in the Spring Pairs Match, with three weights over 200lb and 190lb only good enough for sixth place! The match was won by Mark Johnson, who drew peg 26 on the Match Lake and weighed in an impressive 221-9-0.
Most of the fish were caught on the pole down the edge on maggot over groundbait. Richard Lawson and Mark Hawthorne were the other two anglers to top the double ton.
