Trout fishing has been pretty tough at Packington Somers, with strong winds making for difficult presentation. However, anglers are still managing nearly three fish apiece.
Best fish of the week went to Solihull’s Ben Collyer, who fished from a boat on the Great Pool and fooled an 8lb rainbow using a Guinea Lure fished on a sinking line.
Another notable rainbow of 7lb 8oz fell for Birmingham’s Mr P O’Neill who was fishing a yellow dancer Lure on and intermediate line from a boat at Cock’s Close, while another Birmingham angler, Ray Inman, included a rainbow of 4lb and a brown trout over 4lb in a seven-fish catch taken and released while boat fishing at Cock’s Close using a Cat’s Whisker and a floating line.
The best patterns are Cat’s Whisker, black or white Tadpole, Fritz Lure, Bloodworm, Damsel Nymph, Montana, Minkie and black Buzzer.
The best areas have been from the old boat jetty round to the wires bank on Cocks Close, the shallow water at the top end of Great Pool and the dam wall and far bank of Park Meadow.
