‘Overseas anglers spend an estimated €90m a year’

Three new angling guides have been launched as part of a broader strategy for developing angling tourism in Ireland.  Brochures detailing information on COARSE, SEA and PIKE fishing are now available with further guides on SEA TROUT, SALMON and BROWN TROUT available shortly.

These new guides are designed to be a user-friendly reference guide for visitors with a core angling focus but also provide information on boat hire, guides, bait and tackle shops and local tourism contacts.  The aim is to ensure that visiting anglers are directed to the location where their expectations will be best met.  The guide also contains a dedicated section on locations suitable for anglers with a disability or restricted mobility.

Angling is an important sector for Irish tourism offering sustainable economic potential, especially in rural and coastal areas.  Generating €90m in revenue per annum, the average spend of an angler is well above that of general visitors.  Research indicates that there is significant potential as angling in Ireland is well-regarded and effective in meeting the needs of identifiable tourist segments.  Visitors who come to Ireland to fish are also looking for a high quality Irish experience – broader than just the angling summed up in “Travel, Stay, Fish and Play”!
