The ice disappeared for a short spell last week on Packington Somers’ trout lakes, allowing a few hardy souls to fish on Cocks Close.
Those that braved the weather caught well with white or black lures fished on intermediate or sinking lines the best tactic, with a rod average of over six fish per angler.
Ray Inman of Birmingham fished from a boat and caught seven fish to 7lb 2oz on a Woolly Bugger Lure. Matthew Bird of Atherstone also took a boat out and caught 23 fish on a catch and release ticket with the biggest estimated at around the 6lb mark. These fell to a Bloodworm pattern or black Buzzer fished under an indicator.
The frost at the weekend saw all the pools freeze over again and I’d advise anybody to telephone before travelling to the fishery on 01676 522754.
