Catching tuna off the west coast of the Ireland has become a viable angling option over the last few years, but now one has been found 30 miles up England’s River Severn!
The 7ft saltwater fish was found dead near Misterworth in Gloucestershire by canoeist Kevin Brady, who posted video of the amazing find on social media.
It’s thought it must have been chasing salmon and elvers up the mighty river following recent very high tides. According to the Saltwater Fish Weight Calculator, the fish could have been in excess of 300lb in weight!
The unusually high water temperature of the river for the time of year – around 17 degrees – could also be a factor, tempting fish to come from the west coast of France into the Bristol Channel.
