THE Tynemouth Open attracted the best field of the weekend with 438 anglers all hoping for the tasty £1000 first prize.
The rover was fished from Plantation to Tynemouth Pier, and 87 of the competitors weighed in a total of 197 fish for a level 325lb.
Winner was Birtley’s Andrew Harper, who tempted three cod and two dab for an excellent 15-9-2 total and 20 Penn points. Andrew took his first two codling from unfancied peg 85 before moving to peg 15 for a codling and two dab.
In second spot was Wallsend angler Dennis Dugdale, who fished a hole at the back edge of Hartley Island and tempted a fine cod weighing 12lb 8oz 2dr. Alec Harvey of Cramlington was third with eight fish fro 11-14-2 from the pier in an event which raised £600 for charity.
