The Angling Trust has announced that Team England will compete in all three youth categories of the FIPS-ed World Championships for the very first time in 2017.

The World Championships will be held in Ireland on Inniscarra and the River Lee on 12th-13th August 2017.

The highly successful Drennan U25 and Sensas U20 teams will once again be led by Mark Downes and Steve Sanders respectively while Team England’s newly formed U15 team will be led by Joe Roberts. Assisting the teams and management this year will be Darren Bickerton and Matt Derry (U25s), Cameron Hughes (U20s) and Mick Gibbs (U15s).

England have enjoyed sustained success over a number of years in both the U25 and U20, formerly the U23 and U18 categories. Both teams will be going all out to maintain that success this summer and will be joined by a talented group of U15 anglers looking to show their skills on the world stage for the first time.

Ben Thompson, Angling Trust’s Competitions & Performance Manager, said: “I’d like to congratulate each and every angler selected to represent England in the 2017 World Championships and we wish them the very best of luck in their endeavours. England has a wealth of talent across all categories but it is particularly pleasing to see our youth teams continue to perform on the world stage and we are delighted to be able to enter an U15 team for the first time to complement our fantastic U20 and U25 teams.

“Following recent changes to the age categories it is vitally important to the continued success of Team England that we can provide our most talented youngsters with opportunities to compete at the highest level. Our ambition is to enter three youth teams year on year and we are actively seeking a sponsor to support the U15 team’s participation in future world championships.”
