- England Ladies secured a silver medal in the women’s ICFA International on home soil at Wraysbury Lake, Berkshire.
The match, which was the historic first multi nation female international for carp fishing, was hotly contested and incredibly close. England took an early lead but were overtaken by a Welsh team that was absolutely on form.
England scored a win and three section seconds, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory. England Ladies have had an unbeaten run over the last two years with two golds to their name but had to settle for silver on this occasion.
England manager Rob Hughes said: “It was a brilliant and very close competition with only two points the difference between gold and silver. The England Lionesses were valiant but the Welsh Dragons were quite simply too powerful on this occasion. They fished impeccably and deserved the win.”
The ladies’ season is now over other than an exhibition competition later in the year.
Result:
Gold: Wales – 5pts
Silver: England – 7pts
Bronze: Netherlands – 12 pts
