Norway has produced a world record rod caught cod in the shape of this monster weighing just short of 104lb to German angler Michael Eisele.
Michael was fishing at Breivikfjord near Hammerfest in the north of the country and weighed in at 47lb (103.6lb) nearly 5lb over the IGFA All Tackle world record for the species.
The fish came from 90ft of water 10 miles off the island of Soroya and took Michael over half an hour to bring in. He’s donated the fish to the Norwegian Fisheries Museum in Bergen and is submitting a world record claim.
The current world cod record of 98lb 12oz was caught off New Hamsphire USA in 1969. The British record cod stands at 58lb, a fish caught off Whitby in 1992.
