Birmingham angler Yuri Bukovych was the toast of Packington Somers this week after landing the biggest trout of the year from the Meriden fishery.
The monster 17lb 10oz rainbow trout – pictured – came from the banks at Cocks Close and took a small green nymph on a floating line. Another big fish in the shape of a 10lb 5oz trout fell to the rod of J Davies of Chelmsley Wood, who spent most of the day fishless but hooked the big rainbow on his very last cast – also on Cocks Close but this time to a Cat’s Whisker lure and an intermediate line. The best areas have been the sand bank corner and wires bank of Cocks Close. Top patterns are Bloodworm, Corixa, Cats Whisker, GRHE, Gold Head Damsel, black or olive Buzzer and White Minkies. Cocks Close opens at 8am and closes at dusk.
